The Hague penthouse is located in a royally beautiful spot. The residents wanted their brand-new penthouse to have a luxurious, contemporary feel. Lars Temmink and Ellen Steentjes created an ultra-chic interior that puts the apartment right in the dream house category....

A chic old lady with a perfect facelift: this is the image that comes to mind when you think of this beautifully renovated apartment building. Close to The Hague's most beautiful square, there are several such majestic old buildings. This is the district where embassies are located and where the Noordeinde Palace is just around the corner. A royal setting in which this classic city villa has been given a new lease of life.

Instantly right

"The residents are originally from The Hague," explains Lars Temmink of Byron & Jones. "They live in a quiet part of Belgium and have a rustic interior that fits in very well. Here, in their penthouse, they wanted a more contemporary, modern atmosphere, which needed to have a certain warmth. As soon as they bought the penthouse, they came to visit us at our showroom nearby. We were involved in the renovation from the very beginning. Which is very nice, because that is the only way you can do it in the best possible way. A good lighting plan, for example, can make or break an atmosphere. If it is included in the design from the start, it will be done right the first time.

Complete satisfaction

Anyone entering the complex as a visitor is bound to be impressed. The grandeur of the past still hangs like a voile in the thoroughly renovated building. Once upstairs in the penthouse, the look is surprisingly contemporary. From the lift, the entrance is an understated luxury with a daybed and a small table with a designer chandelier above. Straight ahead and to the left are two bedrooms and their en-suite bathrooms. To the right is the stylish living room. The eight-by-five room has a bright bay window providing additional seating. Everything in the penthouse is perfectly balanced and coordinated without becoming a showroom. Lars Temmink: "This is exactly what the residents wanted. Naturally, all the furniture and accessories were supplied by Byron & Jones. We chose everything in consultation and did the complete styling. To contrast the rustic atmosphere of their Belgian home, we added a few modern elements here and there. The residents are very happy with the final result.
